Featured this album on the twenty eighth issue of RULE of THREE (bit.ly/RULEofTHREEbc). At first glance Favorite Toy seems to be a long lost track from Soft Cells’ Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret citing other early dark synth pop influences however Ritual Veil add a fresher, darker, ice-cold feeling mixed with a strong dancefloor affinity. Hip shaking beats, intoxicating synths and vocals that invite you to close your eyes and sing along. Great stuff.
Favorite track: Favorite Toy.
"Take the familiarity of new wave, post punk and synthpop and throw a sexbeat and goth subculture cloak over it. Add a kind of starry-eyed new romantic feel to the whole mixture, and this is where Portland, OR trio, Ritual Veil, come in.
Ritual Veil have emerged with a solid six-track EP which explores those styles while sounding intuitive and honest. It's been a while since the last time we've listened to a release on which each and every individual track could be a standout single, and this upcoming band's debut EP is one of those cases.
Despite the strongly stylized aesthetics and trust on the traits and sounds of the past, Wolf In The Night surfaces sounding fresh, founded on the trio's impeccable artistic taste, throbbing beats and alluring synths, as well as a striking vocal delivery that always seem to carry a touch of melancholy.
Goth club frequenters and very early Depeche Mode and New Order devotees, sit up for this one."
Review:
Ritual Veil, based in Portland, can't get enough. The trio must have thought: we take some new wave, postpunk and synth-pop as a base, apply a coat of sexy beats with a dark edge and to top it off, give it a twist of gothic flavour. Would that work? Yes, it would!
Wolf In The Night appeared on Other Voices Records. A 7-track album, which by first listening brings up the following question: is this an normal EP or a 'Best Of', filled with super-hits? Well, it is still the first, filled with stylized, full-bodied, finely finished songs. They sound very retro and yet contemporary at the same time. Artistically thought through, a voice with the necessary sincere melancholy, beautiful beats and synths that happily wander through the songs with glee.
Favorite Toy opens as a pure post-punk song, only to turn slowly synth-pop-like. Guitars are prominent and present everywhere but in a correct balance to the other instruments. Gray Filter sounds up-tempo and poppy, and oh so danceable. Title-song Wolf In The Night is cut from the same wood. Fans of Depeche Mode and bands like New Order will certainly find their taste in Time Again. Ritual Veil will evoke that wonderful eighties feeling in many lovers of gothic.
Perfect for parties in dark places, preferably cellars, where everyone so it seems, strides weightlessly across the dance floor. With this music, yes you can!

Half past a dreamless sleep tonight
Half left until we see the light
You dance in the rain drenched streets
Alone for everyone to see
To your favorite dance club beat
There's a gray filter in the sky
It makes my days too bright
Wake me up when it is night
Just how long will it take before you decide
Do you really want to face your fate at all
Or keep burning in flashes of light
There's a gray filter in the sky
It makes my days too bright
Wake me up when it is night
In the dead of night
Maybe go for a drive
Just to feel alive
I close my eyes
Because we're having a ball
Do you really want to face your fate at all
You dance in the rain drenched streets
Alone for everyone to see
To your favorite dance club beat
There's a gray filter in the sky
It makes my days too bright
Wake me up when it is night
Track Name: All Black
It's all black
Can't tell where it ends or begins
Can't take it back
My patience is starting to wear thin
Is this a lie
a fabrication I've produced in my own mind
Do I even decide
Is it my time
To put a end to something that
Can't stand the test of time
Do I even decide
It's a fact
I cannot comprehend what's under my skin
Silent attacks
In never ending succession
Is this a lie
a fabrication I've produced in my own mind
Do I even decide
Is it my time
To put a end to something that
Can't stand the test of time
Do I even decide
Is this a lie
a fabrication I've produced in my own mind
Do I even decide
Is it my time
To put a end to something that
Can't stand the test of time
Do I even decide
Do I even decide
Track Name: Wolf In The Night
I'm a witch on the weekend
I really go off the deep end
once my work is completed
I'm a wolf in the night
Quite likely to bite you
When my composure's defeated
I really wanted to go
With you just like you said
But you used my let down guard
To get into my head
I'm a witch on the weekend
I really go off the deep end
once my work is completed
I'm a wolf in the night
Quite likely to bite you
When my composure's defeated
In the night
I really wanted to go
With you just like you said
But you used my let down guard
To get into my head
I'm a wolf in the night
I'm a wolf in the night
Quite likely to bite you
I'm a wolf in the night
I'm a wolf in the night
Quite likely to bite you
Track Name: Favorite Toy
Put your hands where I can see them
I decide if you need them
Close my eyes and I can feel when
Precious lives are cheapened
Who is your favorite toy?
In the end times
There's just no use to be nice
We're running out of time
Gonna make you mine
You fell In love so quickly again
Is it entirely genuine
In the end times
There's just no use to be nice
We're running out of time
Gonna make you mine
Who is your favorite toy?
Fell in love so quickly again
Track Name: Surface
She sees the devil
It's all around us she says
Through shining teeth
describes how she'd rather be dead
She looks nice
With lips of black
When she looks back
Gives me a heart attack
But look twice
Because below the surface
She makes me nervous
She's on another level
I'm in over my head
She says that god still speaks to us
And she knows what he says
She looks nice
With lips of black
When she looks back
Gives me a heart attack
But look twice
Because below the surface
She makes me nervous
Think you see it
Since you started to stare
But it's not there
Think you see it
Since you started to stare
But it's not there
You start believing
things may be not turning out right
And it was all just a waste of time
You start to see things that might
Only be symptoms of a glitch in your mind
You think you see it
Since you started to stare
But it's not there
Think you see it
Since you started to stare
But it's not there
Track Name: Time Again
You heard me swear I love you still
You didn't have to take those pills
You thought it would be wise to stay inside
Until the feelings turn to thrills
Just a little time again
For me
You know I need just a little time again
It's necessary
Just a little time again
For me
Just a little time again
You cast spells against your will
only half-believing in your skill
We found it to be nice to spend some time
Until the feeling was killed
Just a little time again
For me
You know I need just a little time again
It's necessary
Just a little time again
For me
Just a little time again
Just a little time again
You said for me just a little time
You said for me just a little time
You said for me just a little time
I'm looking out for me and mine
Just a little time again
For me
You know I need just a little time again
It's necessary
Just a little time again
For me
Just a little time again
Just a little time again

Discovered Hante from another member's collection. The way Hante's voice drifts through my speakers across my room is amazing. Love the entire album. valhalla1240

Another lovely album by Hante who here sounds even more East European than any other outing. Again, references to Ladytron would not be outlandish. Fewer hooks mean that it can be played over and over without the danger of overplay. Andy
